How To Overcome Procrastination (As A Christian)

A lot has been said about procrastination in almost all walks of life. Today, we will be talking about procrastination from a biblical and Christian perspective. Read further to learn how to overcome procrastinating (as a Christian).

Procrastination is a deadly disease, just like cancer that eats you up and takes away the vital part of you. The reason for this kind of example is because, procrastination will make you assume you have enough time to do what you're supposed to do, until you end up realising you have a load of unaccomplished tasks—which you may never be able to accomplish.

1 Corinthians 14:40 NLT
But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

Procrastination makes you become unproductive to your world and even to yourself. It has the capacity to bring you shame, because by the time you make a promise to two or three people in your life (to do a particular thing for them), only to end up disappointing them, your reputation must have been negatively and severely impacted.

How To Overcome Procrastination

Procrastination is an enemy to your glorious destiny. As you postpone what is meant to be done today to another day, and when the day comes, you shift it yet to another day again; you'll end up realising that years have gone by without you accomplishing a thing!

Procrastination is a bait that leads to a regretful life. May we not look back in regret, Amen.

The Bible speaking in Proverbs 20:4, says: "Those too lazy to plow in the autumn (permit me to say at the right time), he will seek at harvest and have nothing," (paraphrased). This is a clear scripture that shows the outcome of a man who allows procrastination to rule over him.

If you take a rest when you should be up and doing, you will be forced to work when you are supposed to be resting. Our Lord Jesus Christ told us in John 9:4 that, “We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work (NLT).”

I hope you took note of that word “quickly,” which implies that time is not on your side forever. Also remember that a missed opportunity may not emerge again. If you do not take advantage of the opportunities you have now, more may not come because, opportunity made use of will open another door.

In the book of Proverbs 21:17, the Bible says that whoever loves pleasure will become poor, and those who love wine and luxury will never be rich. If you do not stop the lifestyle of procrastinating, you can not taste a life of greatness.

In 1 Timothy 5:6, the Bible says: "But she (you) who lives in pleasure is dead even while alive." You do not have much time to waste, it is time to get serious. You are doing yourself more harm than good when you procrastinate.

The good news is, there is no problem without a solution. If you are willing to turn a new leaf , then there is hope for you. What then is the way out? Let's see below.

2. Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

The comfort zone is a deadly place, it brings no progress to your life and adds nothing profitable to you.

After making the decision to quit procrastinating, you have to become proactive in doing things that will enable you step out of your comfort zone, and put an end to every form of laziness.

The interesting part of this is that, you do not know how much you can do until you start doing them. Train yourself to get used to discomfort. The comfort zone will only make you mediocre, if you remain there.

3. Make Plans And Follow Them

Become intentional about making plans and executing them. If necessary, write a to-do list for your week, so you will not be left without focus or unprepared concerning what to do.

When you are assignment-conscious, finding solutions becomes the task. Start from one task, move to another and before you know it, you would have done so much than what could have been done once.

4. Set Realistic Goals On Achieving Your Plans

After making plans concerning things you want to see done, the next step is to set for yourself deadlines on when you want those things achieved.

Setting realistic goals will help you achieve focus, and motivate you towards seeing your desired results from the set plans.

Being in the company of people who are also goal-oriented, will go a long way to help you stay focused and ambitious. You cannot desire to make progress while being in the wrong circle.

A company that does not make you better will leave you worse. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to become better and aim higher in life. Have in your circle, people who don't find pleasure in idleness.

6. Ask God For His Help

After all that have been said, commit everything into God’s hand and He will help you, and give you the strength required to carry out the tasks that will bring progress to your life.
