John 5:33-35 KJVYe sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
God's Mind Today
Our Lord Jesus spoke about John the baptist as being a burning and shining light. And we may begin to wonder, what made Him address John the baptist this way? The answer is simple: that was exactly who John was—a red-hot and flaming minister of the gospel, full of the Holy Ghost.
The Lord did not stop at just mentioning John the baptist as being a light. He also mentioned that we are the light of this world, and a city set on a hill (Matthew 5:14). But the question is, are we burning and shining?
Our God is Light and also a Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29). We are not just supposed to be a cold and dim light. Our lights are supposed to shine to the level of intensity that translates it into a fire. That was who John the baptist was.
The words of God came out of his mouth like flaming swords, piercing hearts, causing genuine repentance and turning many back to God.
Matthew 5:15 (NIV) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
Are we letting our light shine? Are we shinning and burning?
We were sent to be the lights of God in a dark world. We are here to shine our lights and show those who are lost in this gross darkness the way back to God. A dim light without heat cannot survive this cold and dark world, talkless of being able to light up others for God. We must be burning and shining in order to be able to do what the Lord sent us on earth to do. This is the standard.
Thank you Father for making it plain to me and reminding me once again, the level at which I am supposed to operate as a Christian. Light up the passion in me to chase after You more than I have ever done, so that I can become a burning and shining light. All for Your glory. This I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.
God bless you!
